Ok, so everywhere this time of year people talk about a new You.
Personally I find this to be rather insulting, true you may not have been happy with things in your past, but you are in transition, flux, motion. We all grow, and change be we are not different people, only in a new stage of you.
So I once again have a personal challenge for you and myself. Stop thinking this year of changing, and instead think of growing. There are always things we are going to want to stop doing, but to grow out of something is a much more permanent move forward for that goal then to stop it outright.
This time of year people like to promise themselves and others they will do one thing right away, while most will fall back into the same problem they had. I say to take a little time and see what the problem comes from (takes far more time then just saying you will stop). Why do you over eat, smoke, curse, not exercise enough? What is holding you back from those goals? It may not be you, but something you had not seen before, but do not let this stop you.
Growth takes time, it also takes nourishment and care. So you can not just go out and work for a week at it and expect it to bloom into what you are wanting. Play it smart, set small goals, work at it often a little at a time. Create habits (it takes 21 days of continuous repetition to make a habit), learn things about your goal that draw you in. If you goal is to learn a new language do more then just take a class, read up on the culture. Find the fun things about the land and people for you. Make it personal.
When things are personal they effect you in the long term, only then can it change your life and help you grow.
So this New Year, rather then recreating you, help yourself grow into the next stage of you.
